When you notice, the Chrome browser’s default search engine is changed from Google.com to search.yahoo.com without any permission. It usually happens when some web extension or application gets hold of the browser’s settings.

How to Change Yahoo Search Engine?

Manually Change Search Engine

  • From your desktop, open Google Chrome.

  • Choose a three-dot menu at the top.

  • Proceed to settings.

  • From the left sidebar, choose the search engine.

  • From the search engine menu, you can change it to Google from Yahoo.

You can now manage the search engine menu, tap on it and check the default search engines. Tap to more menu beside Yahoo. After that, choose to remove it from the available list, and you can use Google Chrome browser as a default browser.

  1. Set Google as Homepage

Google Chrome will allow them to set specific pages as their default homepage. By default, it is set to open a new tab page. Although, you can smoothly change it to a specific page in the Chrome browser. Here’s how you can do it:

  • From your computer, proceed to Google Chrome and tap on the More menu at the top.

  • Choose settings and tap on startup from the left sidebar.

  • After that, tap on open a specific page, or you can set of pages from the On startup menu.

  • Here, type Google search address and close the tab.

These are the steps to set Google as a homepage. It is important to follow the steps properly to avoid any issues.

  1. Disable Programs and Extensions Powered by Yahoo

Outdated extensions that the developer has not properly maintained might get infected. When you use such extensions, these might result in redirecting you to the Yahoo Search engine while you browse in Chrome.


In case the issue exists, then you need to disable the reset of the extensions for some time to confirm if it’s some extension causing the issue. If these extensions aren’t creating an issue, then uninstall any search-related program powered by Yahoo on your system.

To do that, proceed to the control panel and then to programs and features to smoothly uninstall the program. After that, type Yahoo in the search bar and tap to enter. Right-click on search the web and click to uninstall.

  1. Run Security Check for Chrome and Windows

The next alternative available is to know how to remove Yahoo Search bar; then, you must run a security check for both Windows and Chrome. Microsoft will take time to automatically scan your system to check potential threats as per the size of the data that you have on the system. The scanner will detect the threat and will let you know how complex the issue is. After that, you can decide whether to remove them or not. To check, tap to action, and the threat will be removed.

If you face the same issue again after some time, then the best alternative is to reinstall it once again. You can also consider switching to some other browser if the issue doesn’t resolve.
